Every month, a language disappears forever. But in Guatemala and beyond, a growing movement is working to change that.

In this powerful episode of LLD Conversations with the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), host David Brackett sits down with cultural leaders and language access advocate Mila Golovine, Gaspar Tomas, and Dr. Winston Scott to explore the inspiring work of the Mayan Language Preservation Project.

Through deeply personal stories, interpreter insights, and a shared commitment to language equity, the panel unpacks how this community-led initiative is using technology, education, and cultural engagement to revitalize endangered Mayan languages. With over 7 million speakers and more than 20 distinct languages at risk, the project is building a digital bridge to preserve heritage, expand interpreter training, and ensure that future generations can access healthcare and opportunity in their native language.

Tune in for a meaningful conversation on what it truly means to protect languageβ€”and why it matters for all of us. #linkinbio

What’s 25 times more powerful than the world’s fastest supercomputer, and still can’t replace a human interpreter?

Our Director of IT, Brian Page, just returned from Google Cloud Next 2025, where he got a firsthand look at some of the latest developments in AI, like Ironwood, Google’s newest TPU (Tensor Processing Unit). Designed to boost computing power while using less energy, Ironwood delivers up to 42.5 exaflops, far surpassing what’s currently possible with today’s top supercomputer, El Capitan at 1.7 exaflops.

This kind of advancement is shaping the future of AI tools, including speech-to-text and text-to-speech. But as the technology evolves, one thing remains clear.

There’s no substitute for the human interpreter.

Real language access means more than speed and efficiency. It means understanding cultural context, preserving patient privacy, and showing up with empathy. That’s something no algorithm can replicate.

At Linguava, we stay curious about what’s next, but our focus will always be on the people we serve and the connections we build, one conversation at a time.
