Simultaneous Interpretation Workshop

This hands-on workshop is designed for experienced healthcare interpreters looking to strengthen their simultaneous interpreting skills. Participants will focus on interpretation mechanics, best practices, and strategies for continuous improvement. Over two 4-hour workshop sessions, interpreters will gain practical experience in both onsite and video simultaneous interpretation.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop proficiency in managing simultaneous interpreting encounters, including working with presenters, groups, and partner interpretation.
- Master the Zoom “Interpreter Channel” feature for video interpretation and learn to operate common radio sets for in-person assignments.
- Gain hands-on experience with real-world healthcare scenarios using scripts and video resources.

Interpreting for Breast Cancer Care

CEU Requirements for Medical Interpreters
Medical interpreters are required to complete a specific number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to maintain their certifications. Our workshops are designed to meet CEU guidelines for major certifying bodies such as CCHI and NBCMI. Be sure to check your certifying body’s specific requirements for accepted CEU credits.
Common CEU Requirements for Medical Interpreters:
- CCHI (Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters): Requires 32 CEUs every four years, with at least four CEUs in performance-based training.
- NBCMI (National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters): Requires 30 hours of CEUs every five years, including both ethics and medical terminology topics.
- OHA (Oregon Health Authority): Requires 24 hours of OHA approved continuing education; 6 hours of interpreter ethics; 6 hours of interpreter skills; 12 additional hours accepted by interpreter certification testing centers
