Ana has been a qualified Spanish medical interpreter with Linguava for more than 5 years. She is extremely passionate about serving the Spanish speaking patients and being part of the medical team.

We asked Ana what was one of her most treasured moments as an interpreter. Here is what she shared with us.

Ana’s Story

One of my most treasured memories as a medical interpreter was when I was able to advocate for a child patient who the doctor assumed spoke English just because he was in school. The doctor did not let me interpret for the patient and said English will work just fine.

I felt very grateful to be able to help serve as a bridge for someone who needed my help.

After the session the patient told me that they only spoke a little bit of English and felt more comfortable in Spanish. I relayed this to the doctor and we covered all the information again with me interpreting.  The doctor then thanked me after the session. He had been speaking English to the patient for prior medical visits and patient would just stay silent. The doctor assumed the patient was being rebellious. This is a favorite memory in the field because I felt very grateful to be able to help serve as a bridge for someone who needed my help.
